Personal Interests

The late singer/song writer John Denver so eloquently depicts the American Bald Eagle. As you listen to his songs, as well as others, about eagles soaring over wind-swept mountains, one can actually "experience" the high of such a creature. As a volunteer for a nature center that dealt with the rehabilitation of this magnificant bird, I have held an eagle on my fist, and helped to exercise injured eagles in the hope that one day they could be released back into the wild. A number of them were; and yet, others were so damaged by man's cruelty and insensitivity, that they will never fly free again.

Our gift to those of you currently exploring this site is a small album of pictures of our our national symbol. Enjoy!!
In this final picture, you can see a perfect example of an immature eagle and an adult--the head feathers don't turn completely white until a bald eagle is a fully matured adult. Young birds have the same color of feathers over their entire body, with the white slowly appearing--as you can see, the bird on the left is close to maturity when you look at the detail of the feather colors.
